Programme rationale

There has been an increased negative perception of Islamic religious teachings, with a high media profile given to recent attacks.

This has resulted in:

An increase in intolerance towards Muslims

Segregation in communities caused by mistrust and suspicion Strengthening of far right groups

A general wariness of anything different

Stereotypes being manifested into culture

Benefits

Through discussion and debate Same Difference aims to deliver a clearer understanding of Islam’s views on tolerance by tackling issues such as Jihad, suicide bombings and terrorism, as well as exploring identity.

Discussions around sensitive topics/issues will help reduce misconceptions

Tolerant institutions are also more likely to have higher whole school attendance and attainment levels.
